Resist The Devil

1 Peter 5:8-9 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeing whom he may devour; Whom resist steadfast in the faith ... ".

Some one has said that vigilance is the eternal price of freedom. The!

This principle is true in the spiritual realm also. The Bible clearly states over and over that true Christians are in a warfare with forces of evil. I believe in a personal devil. There is as much evidence for a personal devil as there is for a personal God. People are led either by God or Satan. Since Jesus said, "He that is not with me is against me ... "
(Matthew 12:30), there is NO middle ground; you are either on one side or the other.

How important it is that we maintain constant vigilance in the spiritual realm! How many churches and schools that were once fundamental are now citadels of modernism and infidelity because someone failed to watch! The devil doesn't come with horns and pitchfork and dressed up in a red suit. NO!

2 Corinthians 11:14 tells us he comes as an angel of light. Being arch-deceiver, he knows if he went into a Bible believing church where people loved the Lord and openly began to deny the Bible and the deity of Jesus Christ, that they would not listen to him. He has more sense than that. Claiming to believe the Bible - many times he comes with a fundamental creed - he will undermine the church's stand against sin and worldliness, by talking about the " ... DEEP THINGS OF GOD"
(1 Corinthians 2:10), he'll try to get folks' eyes off Jesus. Sometimes he uses saved folks as he used Peter to try the Lord. There are thousand ways we can hope to survive is to watch for him when he comes and resist him "STEADFAST IN THE FAITH."

The promise of God is, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from us" (James 4:7 ). If Satan is not fleeing it is because we are not resisting. Jesus gave us the example when He turned to Peter and said "... Get thee behind me, Satan ... " (Matthew 16:23). God has promised us victory if we resist.
