The Livingstone Legacy
by W. Herschel Ford

As we read the book of Acts, we see one thing about these men that stands out above all others - it is their faithfulness to Christ and their God given task. They left all for Him; they suffered all for Him. They lived not for this world but for the world to come.
David Livingstone was one of the greatest Christians who ever lived. He gave his life for Christ in Africa. When he died, they brought his body back to England and buried him in Westminster Abbey. The crowds thronged the streets to pay their tribute to him. But one old man stood alone, weeping as if his heart would break. Who was this man? He was a friend of David Livingstone's. They had been raised together; they had played together. When Livingstone decided to go to Africa, this friend told him he was crazy. He said he was going to stay in London and become rich. He stayed in London; he lived for himself. He was known by very few people, while David Livingstone became the best known and most greatly loved man of his day. On the day Livingstone was buried, this man cried out, "I put the emphasis on the wrong world."
I wonder if you are putting the emphasis on the wrong world. Are you living for self and for the things of this world only? How foolish it is to do that! At the end of the way, there will be nothing to look back upon but a wasted and misspent life - no hope for the world to come. One should give his life to Jesus, live for Him, put Him first, and every good thing will be added to unto him.

Prayer Plus Effort
On one of D. L. Moody's journeys across the Atlantic, there was a fire in the hold of the ship. The crew and some volunteers stood in line to pass buckets of water.
A friend  said to D. L. Mood, "Mr. Moody, let us go to the other end of the ship and engage in prayer.
The commonsense evangelist replied, "Not so, sir. We well stand right here and pass buckets and pray hard all the time we are doing so."
How like Moody that was He believed that prayer and work should not be separated.

Now That's Funny

A fellow went into the post office and asked for a dollar's worth of stamps. "What denomination?" asked the clerk. "Well", came the reply, "I didn't know it would ever come to this: but the government must know I'm a Baptist.".
