I think it is an interesting read.
Bible References for the Parable of the Sower.
Matthew 13 (KJV) - The Different Grounds
I chose this chapter of the Bible. One can read the other books that have reference to this parable by clicking on the link above (links to the Online King James Bible site). There are other versions of these verses from other Bible translations one can look up (do a search using Bible Parable of the Sower and enter ones chosen version of the Bible).
The types of grounds is representative of the different ways people hear the message of the gospel. How it is received determines the outcome of the hearing.
I believe the farmer - even in Bible times - would know about these types of ground and the results that is mentioned. What is true then is also true now.
'Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away..'
Matthew 13: the Meanings of the Grounds.
The scriptures gives the meaning of the different grounds. The grounds are the hearts of the receiver of the seed or God's Word; the Holy Bible. It shows how one receives it determines the outcome.
There are so many distractions that one does not received the Word but ignores and allows others to take it away.
'But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.'
There are those who seem to receive the Word but don't really accept it. It is a shallow reception that is easily blown away since it didn't take root in the heart. The Word is easily removed whenever there is a problem or persecution. I call these people CINO; Christian in name only (they appear to be Christian but it is just a disguise that is easily removed). They don't have any roots in the faith and their 'faith' is easily removed.
This is a person who cares more about riches and other things to the degree that the Word of God is coked out and does not take root in their heart. I think they are what some call a 'Sunday Christian' since they only appear to be a Christian on Sunday. The rest of the week they live their life contrary to God's word.
This is a person who receives God Word because his or her heart was prepared. I believe they were witnessed to and there are those who prayed for this person.
The above shows that we need to prepare the heart for the message. I believe the heart - like the ground - should be prepared by those witnessing / giving fourth the seed of the gospel as well as those that pray for the person receiving God's Word / message. The receive should also prepare the heart by praying and keeping the heart and mind clear of things that could distract from God's Word from taking root.
