I think it is an interesting read.
Bible References for the Parable of the Sower.
Matthew 13 (KJV) - The Different Grounds
I chose this chapter of the Bible. One can read the other books that have reference to this parable by clicking on the link above (links to the Online King James Bible site). There are other versions of these verses from other Bible translations one can look up (do a search using Bible Parable of the Sower and enter ones chosen version of the Bible).
The types of grounds is representative of the different ways people study the Bible. Each ground determines how we study God's Word.
I believe the farmer - even in Bible times - would know about these types of ground and the results that is mentioned. What is true then is also true now.
'Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away..'
Matthew 13: the Meanings of the Grounds.
The scriptures gives the meaning of the different grounds. I think it is not just for salvation of the receiver but also could apply to those who want to read and study the Bible.
There are so many distractions that can interfere with the study of God's Word. One could read the Bible but it could be just words on the page if there is so much that comes along and distracts us; worries and concerns. Things that of itself is not bad but could keep the Word of God from taking root in our heart and in our mind.
'But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.'
There are those who seem to receive the Word but don't really apply it. They going to Bible studies and read the Word but it doesn't take root. When problems come (with being a Christian, it will come), they go against what they are taught or have read. They are CINO; Christian in name only. They are only Christian when it is convenient or it doesn't cause them problems.
This is a person who cares more about riches and other things to the degree that the Word of God is coked out and does not take root in their heart. I think they are what some call a 'Sunday Christian' since they only appear to be a Christian on Sunday. The rest of the week they live their life contrary to God's word.
This is a person who receives God Word because his or her heart was prepared. One must prepare the ground / ones heart to receive God's Word. One must prepare to receive it by praying that God opens their mind to receive the message / meaning of what is being read / studied. Praying that God removes any distractions that might interfere with God's Word being planted in ones heart / mind. Once it takes root, it will flourish. Once it is planted, God can use it to bring to mind any scripture that is put there for our betterment, for our becoming more Christ like.
Going to a good Bible preaching church also prepares us for God's Word to be planted, watered or produce 'seed' - being more Christ like life which - in my opinion - pleases God.
