Lesson of the Widows Mite and the Widows Mite Coin

 


Luke 21: 1 - 4 (Bible Gateway) KJV.

21 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.


The rich might have given more but she gave all she had. Per the scripture above, it had more value to God since it was a greater sacrifice for her to give. It is not the value of what is given but the value of the sacrifice.

Here are some of the coins of the Bible. One can see the comparison of the widows mite to the others. It is usually the smaller the coin, the lesser the value. The widows mite is the smallest of the coins. 



The actual widows mite - examples and replicas  - can be found and bought online. I think it is neat that one can get one so one can see what the coin is like.

There are other sites that have them for sale. One just has to do a search for 'widows mite replicas'. Since they are replicas with a low price, one can easily get many to give out as examples when one is doing a lesson on the widows mite. 

One can get an authentic real widows mite but the price - while in Biblical times - was low then, it has a greater value now. One can see the higher prices at the Etsy site (the other listings showing the widow mites below the main listing).

Part Two of My Trip to the Museum of the Bible in Washington DC

This is the part where they had the King James Bibles. It gave some information on the history of it and there were a few King James Bibles too. There might be other photos of this floor where they have the history of the Bible and they will be part of a different blog. It took up the whole floor. There are six floors of the museum with floor having a different theme / part of the Bible.
